Our Avalon Artists

Cake For Dinner opened its doors at our first retail front on February 6th, 2025 at Avalon in Alpharetta, Georgia. Avalon is a luxurious destination shopping center filled with top-of-the-line retail fronts, dining, entertainment, and experiences. Overnight, we turned an empty retail space into a picture-perfect retail spot!

Catherine Cox Whitis, a contemporary artist with roots in East Tennessee, now lives and works in Atlanta, drawing inspiration from the vast natural world, beautiful interiors, and curated collections. Her work, including pieces showcased at Cake For Dinner Avalon, embodies a fun and feminine energy—just like a CFD girl! Trained in studio art and photography at the University of Georgia, Catherine spent several years in Advertising and Digital Marketing before fully immersing herself in painting as a form of meditation. She cherishes the solitude of the creative process, allowing her artistic instincts to flow freely. For her, knowing when a piece is complete is simply a feeling—an intuitive sense that the work has found its perfect balance. Beyond art, a fun fact about Catherine is that her teenage daughter loves to wear CFD, making her connection to the brand even more special. And when it comes to cake? Carrot cake is her ultimate favorite!

Katherine Wirth is a passionate artist who creates from the heart, letting inspiration flow freely and without rules. Her piece "Wild Whimsy," featured at Cake For Dinner Avalon, was brought to life with Taylor Swift playing in the background and thoughts of her 14-year-old daughter, Annie, filling her mind. Annie, who radiates kindness and positivity, has always been Katherine’s sunshine, and that warmth shines through in her art. "Wild Whimsy" is a fine art print that can be recreated for those who want a piece of that joy in their own home. Without formal art training, Katherine embraces the beauty of creating without boundaries, believing that true art comes from within rather than following technical rules. She loves the freedom of the creative process and trusts her instincts when a piece is complete—describing the moment as when the art itself seems to declare, "Hello! I'm here! I have arrived!" Beyond her artistic world, Katherine has a sweet tooth for carrot cake with cream cheese icing and admits that while she’s never had cake for dinner, she’s enjoyed it for breakfast! She is honored to have her artwork displayed in Cake For Dinner Avalon and hopes it brings joy to those who see it.

Michele James is an abstract painter known for her large works on canvas. She is inspired by color and movement and uses strong brushstrokes and varied marks on neutral canvases with pops of bold colors. She paints with acrylics and uses chalk, oil pastels, and pencil to vary the texture and medium of her works. She is influenced by the colors in nature, the lightness and space of the sky, and the texture and depth of landscapes. “I love to make people happy and for a client to add my painting to their home is a wonderful compliment” Michele received a BFA in fine art and art history at Hunter College in New York, NY with a concentration in studio painting. Michele paints out of her home studio in Atlanta where she lives with her husband and three kids.
